Here are
some frequently asked questions and answers.
Please feel free to call and ask anything that may not be covered in the
text below. |

|
1. Why Tear off the old roof?
Tearing off the old shingles assures that any structural
defects, flashing concerns, or algae problems can be addressed properly. |
|
|
|
2. What
type of shingle will be used?
A-One Exteriors uses algae resistant shingles manufactured by
two of the largest companies in the industry, Elk and Certainteed.
Both Companies produce shingles from the highest quality materials using
the most innovative techniques available. |

|
|
3. What
should I know about the warranty?
In addition to the standard manufacturers warranty as
determined by the type of shingle you select, A-One Exteriors also
provides a five year workmanship warranty for all products that we
install. For a normal charge, customers also have the opportunity to
purchase an extended workmanship warranty that only manufacturers
certified contractors can offer. |

4. Why
is hand nailing better?
Hand nailing guarantees proper nail placement on the shingle.
This technique allows us to meet manufacturers installation
specifications, while at the same time greatly increasing the durability
of your roof. Hand nailing also provides for the equal nail
penetration into the shingles and decking. While fast, pneumatic
nail guns do not always provide for even nail penetration throughout the
entire roof. If the drive is light, the nail can stickup through the
shingle. If the drive is heavy, the nail can be driven through the
shingle. Even nail penetration makes for a longer roof life and a
smoother looking finish. |

5. Is
an Ice/Water shield necessary?
No roof is completely water tight. Ice dams and wind blown rain
can penetrate the roof's outer shell often times causing water damage.
Applying an inexpensive Ice/Water shield at the time of your roof
replacement is the solution for winning the battle against water
penetration. |

6. Do I
need vent ridge vents?
When warm air rises into the attic, it affects the air at the highest
point of the roof. Without a proper escape route, this warm air can
directly affect the life of the shingles and the wood decking.
Manufacturer's studies have shown that ridge vents are more effective than
other products at reducing heat in the attic. |
